Porto Antico

Restored to the city by Renzo Piano's redevelopment project for the Columbus Celebrations in 1992, the Porto Antico di Genova area is the new city centre, offering a broad range of attractions for tourists.

It is home to the Acquario di Genova, visited by more than 1,200,000 people a year, and a series of important cultural centres (La Città dei Bambini e Ragazzi, Museo Nazionale dell'Antartide, the Luzzati Museum, the E. De Amicis children’s library). And in the nearby Darsena is the Galata Museo del Mare, the most comprehensive maritime museum in the Mediterranean area. The Porto Antico area, which is also used as a location for commercials, films and television fiction productions, also contains bars, cafés, restaurants, a multi-screen cinema and shopping malls.
In summer, the Porto Antico area offers a broad range of music and entertainment.
